Next May, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency opens its new eco-designed office, Inverdee House in Aberdeen. To celebrate the opening of this innovative new building we are launching an exciting competition for all school pupils attending Aberdeen City schools.
We want you to create a multimedia presentation, of five minutes or less, aimed at making Scotland flood-aware. Working in groups you will first need to find out about how flooding affects Scotland and then decide on a format for your presentation. It could take the form of a filmed documentary or perhaps you may prefer to produce a piece of animation or a musical performance - it’s up to you. Entries will be judged on their originality, their message and the impact of the presentation.
The two winning entries - one primary and one secondary school – will receive a £100 Amazon voucher for their school; a visit from SEPA to talk to their class about protecting the environment, as well as a prize for every pupil in the winning class. Their presentations will be shown at the launch of Inverdee House in Torry in May 2010 and at various SEPA road shows throughout the year.
To get you started, visit our Floodline Kids website http://apps.sepa.org.uk/floodlinekids/ for lots of useful information on the causes and effects of flooding and some fun games to play.
Closing date for entries is 27 March 2010.
Full details on how to submit your entry along with further suggestions for presentation ideas are available in the teachers’ notes.
